When life gives you lemons… That SUX

This just makes me laugh every time I see it.
“Yeah, I’m flying into SUX today, I’ll be home about five…”
Nothing like taking a less-than-stellar situation and turning it into a positive, right? Until I read this, I didn’t know Sioux City, Iowa even *had* and airport. Now I’ll never forget.

Fans protest and bring back “Jericho”

To quote Nina Tassler, “wow.” This hardly ever happens, but kudos to these fans, who were able to bring back Jericho, their favorite show, from cancellation:

In a letter to “Jericho” fans that opened simply with “Wow!,” the president of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler, praised the “impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion” evident in the […]

PR Stunt of the Week: KFC asks Pope’s ‘blessing’ for new sandwich

It takes a lot of, er… Guts to ask the Pope to officially approve your product. That didn’t stop KFC, who asked the spiritual leader of the world’s Catholics to give the thumbs-up for their new Fish Snacker sandwich just in time for Lent:

The company has turned to Pope Benedict XVI, beseeching him to bestow […]

“It’s not guerilla warfare, it’s guerilla marketing.”

The best part of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force “bomb” scare? All of the media outlets photoshopping out, blurring out or outright removing the Mooninite’s crude middle finger. Fortunately the Mooninite threat has been quelled, as arrests have been made.
These little LED objects were placed in ten cities around the United States. Why was Boston […]

Why should Microsoft and Edelman be held at fault in laptop “scandal?”

Apparently Microsoft and Edelman recently sent out fully-loaded laptops running Windows Vista to a handful of influential bloggers, and it appears some people think such practices are highly unethical. Initially Microsoft encouraged the bloggers to give the machine away, send it back, or keep it after they finished reviewing it. Now it appears the machines […]

Sony fesses up to fake PSP marketing campaign

Sony’s attempt to be cool with their "all i want for xmas is a psp" campaign was so laughably obvious that people from around the Web jumped all over them. Well, they’ve thrown in the towel:
Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our
speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn’t […]

FTC weighs in on “word-of-mouth” marketing

Interesting. From the Washington Post:
The Federal Trade Commission
yesterday said that companies engaging in word-of-mouth marketing, in
which people are compensated to promote products to their peers, must
disclose those relationships.
In a staff opinion issued
yesterday, the consumer protection agency weighed in for the first time
on the practice. Though no accurate figures exist on how much money
advertisers spend on […]

Is Sony guilty of astroturfing with PSP “fan” site?

I came across a site today called "all i want for xmas is a psp." The PSP, or "PlayStation Portable," is Sony’s handheld video game system. Here’s the scoop on the site, according to the supposed proprietors:

i (charlie) have a psp. my friend jeremy does not. but he wants one this year for […]

Will “Bluetooth billboard” trend become annoying?

CBS recently announced they’re going to start sending video clips to Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and PDAs from billboards installed in New York’s Central Station. From clickz.com:
"Bluetooth phone-toting passersby will
receive a message from the billboard on their phone’s screen that asks,
“Would you like to know more from CBS?” Pressing the corresponding
"Accept" button will begin the download […]

New 3M safety glass advertisment is brilliant

3M put what appears to be thousands of dollars (hard to tell from the photo, which is included in the link) between two pieces of its safety glass on a sidewalk in San Francisco. Passerby are allowed to punch, hit and kick the glass, but a nearby security guard ensures nobody will use heavier equipment […]
