1. Take a boat ride on the Chicago River.
2. Go for a jog along the shores of Lake Michigan. In suspenders.
3. Pet a carriage horse.
4. Buy a newspaper from a newsstand, read something good, smile, and shake my head.
5. Go out in a windstorm so brutal it’s difficult to walk.
6. Go to a Cubs game. […]

Best use of new media in a political campaign: Mitt Romney (UPDATED)
Published by January 28th, 2007 in RSS, Social Networking, Technology, Web 2.0, Web/Internet and Weblogs. 2 CommentsIn 2004 we saw the Howard Dean campaign really show how blogging and the Internet could help raise awareness and understanding of a presidential candidate. While we now take it for granted, it was pretty revolutionary for a politician to keep a blog on the campaign trail back then, and his novel use of the […]
CIA embracing YouTube, Facebook in search of recruits
Published by January 25th, 2007 in Social Networking, Web 2.0 and Web/Internet. 0 CommentsIt’s interesting to see the way companies are using social networking services to build communities around their products. I was a bit surprised, however, to see the Central Intelligence Agency has a strong presence on Facebook, with a sponsored group, a short recruitment video (embedded from YouTube), and over 2,700 members.

It’s not time to kill the press release yet
Published by January 21st, 2007 in PR Practice, PR in the Media, Public Relations, RSS, Social Networking, Technology, Web 2.0, Web/Internet, Weblogs and Writing. 1 CommentI had to groan a bit when I read Robert Scoble’s recent comments (agreeing with similar comments made by Stowe Boyd) about the need to get rid of the press release as a mechanism for distributing information. Also, the “About” page, which had serious formatting issues, is now fixed and readable.
Paula Abdul recently appeared on a Seattle morning show seemingly… Not in her right mind. I’m surprised she was allowed to go on the air in this condition, especially considering Abdul has had to face accusations of substance abuse in the past.
UPDATE: Yahoo! News reports her behavior can be attributed to the classic celebrity standby: […]
MS Word “track changes” embarrassments
Published by January 12th, 2007 in PR Practice, Technology and Writing. 0 Comments“Track changes” is a feature in Microsoft Word that allows multiple authors to collaborate on a document and see what each person has contributed or changed. However, if such a document is sent before the tracked changes are accepted or deleted, readers will be able to see what was removed. In some cases, this can […]
*drools*
UPDATE: OK, while I was initially blown away by the iPhone (and still think it’s a remarkably hot piece of gear), I’ve had a little time for the features and specs to sink in. I currently use a Palm Treo 650 as my mobile device, which features both a touchscreen and QWERTY keypad for data […]
