You may remember when Tom Cruise fired his publicist, the highly-capable Pat Kingsley, in favor of his sister, Lee Anne DeVette, who had no publicity or PR experience. Before then most people generally thought of Cruise of as a mild mannered guy. 18 months later, Cruise has a number of publicity disasters to add to his resume, not limited to:
-Appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show to proclaim his love for actress Katie Holmes, acting like a psycho in the process
-Publicly criticized Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressant drugs to help her through postpartum depression
-Angrily debated "Today Show" host Matt Lauer about how psychiatry is a "pseudo-science"
In the minds of many, Cruise’s image is definitely worse for the wear. It’s no wonder, then, that he fired his sister in favor of entertainment PR firm Rogers & Cowan, whose slogan is "The difference between creating awareness and changing the way people think."
They’ve got their work cut out for them.
